Keith Miks | A Design Thinker

Here you will find my past agency and client work. This represents a range of industry experience over the years which is a small portion of the projects that actually goes through a shop and the team effort that it takes to make it happen. Took a hands on approach to leading this work and filling in any gaps that were needed. Happy to talk more in detail and walk through any processes or case studies.

Red Bull AirForce

This was a motion project for the Red Bull sponsored Air events that included everything from a mig jet to sky diving acrobatics. Video was developed to play during the air perfomances and events. The flash site contained information on the AirForce skydiving team. The navigation utilized an altimeter turbulence concept and sections included video segments from the motion project for transitions.

Yogi Tea

The Brand team had developed a new identity and packaging design and this website was the next step to bring the new experience to life. Main approach was to create a brand world that was inspired by the hand made henna designs that allowed the user to explore and plant an inspirational messaage, select a tea by personality, learn yoga and get Yogi wise with sayings from the founder, Yogi Bhjan.

California Almonds

This project was about a year of work with multiple teams and vendors. Based on the research insight of an almond recipe centered website for consumers it was also the opportunity to launch the new identity that the brand team had developed in parallel. Design direction included four target audiences and worked tightly to collaborate with the research and account teams well before any creative.

NCAA Snack Off

One of the first microsites with the new branding, Snack Off was an almond recipe user-generated contest to win tickets for the NCAA. Originally worked with the client's PR group to further develop this event approach. A basketball referee was created to navigate the user interaction from emails and banners all the way to the voting and submissions on the site.

Red Bull Word Clash

Continuing with the brand and events sponsorship that Red Bull is engaged in, it also included various urban and artistic venues. Word Clash is a spoken word poetry competition each year and this was the contest site. Included was a gallery of past winners and news on upcoming competitions. Interface was based on a community flyer with pull away tabs along with street imagery for the background.

Van's Waffles

New brand packaging had been developed and a new site was needed to accompany the product before it went in-store. A specialized product selector and questionaire on the homepage was developed to help target the dietary needs of the target audience which ranged from siliac disease to gluten intolerence as well as vegan and vegetarian needs.

Bernina Sewing Republic

To help target a younger generation of sewers the fourth generation swiss company looked to create a new brand engagement. Sewing Republic, was named and branded to connect with this consumer. A YouTube Channel of 'How-To' videos were produced as well as developing a product selection tool. IBM, Sun Microsystems and Qwest

These projects were in my early career that show the hi-tech, telco and B2B experience. My main approach was to heavily use motion design to help push the strict print boundaries of the brand guidelines for these clients. Most projects at this time were cd-rom based that would include an opening video sequence for various sales and presentation tools.

De-Stilled

This was my first attempt years ago at going into freelenace and starting up a studio business. Designed and coded a flash promo site with photography that spoke to the message and not the medium of design. It was a one man show to pull all of this together as it earned a One Show Merit which was an encouraging start to the whole process of working independently.

Digital Media Specialization

At Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design, I had created and taught a six course degree minor. This was about four years and over a thousand hours of classroom time. Courses included user experience, experimental typography, motion and interactive studies from beginning to advanced. Took an Art Director approach to teaching and ran the courses similar to a studio environment.
